The Sport

Netball is a non-contact single sex ball sport played predominantly by women.

It is played on a court 100 ft by 50 ft (30,5 m by 15,25 m) divided into thirds with goal posts at either end.  The goal posts are 10 ft (3,05m) high.   The court is usually a hard surface which is preferred by most players because it lends itself to a faster game.  Grass courts are sometimes used, usually for the younger school teams.  The game is played with a netball or size 5 association football.

There are seven players in a team each playing one of the following positions:

Players may only play in certain areas of the court depending on their position.  The aim of the game is to score goals by shooting the ball through the hoop at the top of the goal post.  You may not run with the ball, kick it, hold it for more than 3 seconds or touch another player.  If another player has the ball, you must be at least 3 ft (1m) away.
